National Anthem

The National Anthem of the Republic of San Marino was composed by the Italian musician Federico Consolo (1841-1906) in 1894 at the request of the Government of San Marino in view of the opening of Palazzo Pubblico (the Government Building).
The anthem was taken from a monastic breviary preserved in the Laurentian Library in Florence, based on a choral of the 10th century.
The Great and General Council (San Marino Parliament) decided to adopt it as the National Anthem of San Marino in its sitting of 11 September 1894. The anthem was performed for the first time on the 30th of the same month, when Palazzo Pubblico opened.
Prior to the adoption of this anthem, a military march called "Giubilanti d'amore fraterno" by master Ulisse Balsimelli used to be played as the Official Anthem of the Republic.
The National Anthem is played by the Military Band on the occasion of national days and official ceremonies.
